There are also more athletic options available to discover the Masoala peninsula. Departing from Maroantsetra or Ambajana (after a trip by boat), you can go around the peninsula and visit the reserves (7-15 days), or directly join Antalaha through the forest (4-7days). Different routes are possible, and with your guide you can plan a trip that considers the level of difficulty desired and equipment (tent, food) necessary. For some trips you may need a tent. Simple and clean bungalows are also available on the peninsula.

The simplest option is to spend a week in the region in and around Maroantsetra. Spend one day in Nosy Mangabe. Stay overnight to watch the Aye-Aye.Camping is the only available accommodation on the island.

A visit to Nosy Mangabe is the perfect stop on your way to or back from the western side of Masoala National Park, which is accessible by rapid boat.

Between Tampolo and Ambodiforaha you have three lodges to choose from and from which you can visit the park: Chez Arol, Tampolo Lodge, and the Forest Lodge (a.k.a. Kayak Masoala). The market in Maroantsetra is also worth a visit. The calm of this charming town makes it an excellent place for a short rest after several-days hiking in the forest.

You can also discover the east coast of the peninsula by mountain bike, making a round trip from Antalaha to Cap Masoala. To rent a bike, please contact restaurants and hotels. The road is accessible by mountain bike (VTT) which is the simplest means of transport allowing you to enjoy the natural environment and the different protected areas. Part of the trip can made by car or on foot.
