Despite several centuries of scientific study, research
on Madagascar's biodiversity is still at its beginning.
Every year forests are destroyed. This destruction hurts
not only the biological riches, but also the development
of the local population, which depends heavily on natural
resources for livelihood needs. Masoala contains an estimated
half of Madagascar's total biodiversity, making it an astounding
natural laboratory for exploring all research fields in
biology.
Two research stations are available to researchers in Nosy
Mangabe and Andranobe. Andranobe is located in the western
coast of the peninsula. Buildings are available, but researchers
can also set up tents. ANGAP agents are always present on
the site which serves as a base for many research teams.
