The West coast of the peninsula

Lohatrozona, Ambodiforaha, Tampolo, Antalaviana

Famous for its birds, Lohatrozona is a paradise for ornithologists. The boundaries of one of the Marine Parks begin at Tampolo. Here the sea is calm and ideal for swimming and diving. Tampolo, Ambodirafia and Marofototra have nice, clean beaches where you can camp. The sea here is clear, clean, and perfect for a swim. One of the most beautiful sites in Masoala, all of nature's wonders seem to conglomerate in this place: the sea, waterfalls with natural swimming pools, rivers and the forest: Eurycère de Prévost, red-ruffed lemurs, coua de serre, palms, beaches, coral reefs, and the forest all in one place.

How to go there ?

Motor boat rental from Maroantsetra. Your trip will last 1 to 4 hours, depending on the weather and the type of boat. No commercial shuttle service is available from Maroantsetra to Lohatrozona, Tampolo, Ambodirafia or Marofototra. The sea is generally very rough from June until August.
Hiking is another possible means from Maroantsetra. The trip lasts 3 - 4 days.
