Observation of the humpback whale The Antongil
Bay is an important
breeding ground for the humpback whale and other marine species. A great number
of whales gather in the bay every year during July, August, and September.
Regular excursions to see the whales are offered throughout the season and can
be easily arranged. Sometimes, whale watching takes patience. But with
persistence you may witness the awesome power of a humpback whale launching
itself into the sky!
Equipment Remember that whales visit the bay during the winter. During
the whale season, it is often rainy and cold. In deed, the whales tend to
breach more often when the weather seems to be the worst! Be prepared to get
wet. Wear warm clothing and bring rain gear. Be sure to protect your camera
gear. Some days, you may get lucky with beautiful skies and calm seas. In this
case, sun lotion is key.
