Defending Air Space

Most sovereign nations have their own air space, especially the military. Whenever there is a war, these air spaces are often restricted by the countries involved. For this reason, air defense is an important part of any military.

What is Air Defense?

In most instances, countries defend their air space against missile attacks, either from the ground or the air. The enemy would not only attack via the ground but also via air. It is, therefore, important for every country to have air defense in place to protect its population and its assets against invasions and attacks.

How can this be done?

The air defense system proposed by Rafael Air Defense system offers a layered defense approach. The system provides defense against various missile or air threats. The system provides countries with protection against current threats but has a futuristic element that provides protection for the future as well.

Its futuristic, multi-layered approach includes the following:

  • The detection of hostile drones that would pose a threat to civilian life, as well as the military
  • The system offers the iron dome technology that can detect and destroy incoming missiles, rockets, artillery, and mortars.
  • They offer a similar system for the protection of ships at sea, which they call the C-Dome
  • The third layer, called the Spyder-SR, provides protection for the military as well as civilian assets from short-range attacks from missiles and other airstrike attacks.

Its Effectiveness

Air defense is vital and is necessary to protect the military, especially the mobile forces on the ground. The defense method makes use of both ground-to-air as well as air-to-air missiles.

The system uses a final layer of protection known as David’s Sling. This layer protects against multiple targets. The latter includes a variety of long-range, medium-range as well as short-range missiles. Its best modus operandi is to intercept any incoming missiles to destroy them.
